Thank You Cycle of Life Tour Riders, Donors, Sponsors and Volunteers
On July 22nd and 23rd, 80 riders toured Vancouver Island and Salt Spring for the Cycle of Life Tour presented by Think Communications. We would like to send a huge thank you to the riders who pedalled nearly 200 km and collectively raised more than $134,000 for end-of-life care across Vancouver Island.
The Cycle of Life Tour wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful volunteers who put in countless hours over the weekend to make this such a special event. More than 40 volunteers helped with every aspect of the weekend from checking in riders, to manning food stations, driving support vehicles, decorating our venue, prepping dinner, setting up tents to ringing those cow bells as the riders glided into the finish line at Dockside Green on Sunday.
The 2-day, fully supported group ride kicked off on the Friday when the riders picked up their official Cycle of Life Tour jersey. Early Saturday morning, riders gathered at Dockside Green before heading off together on an unforgettable cycle touring experience, from Victoria to Salt Spring. After a fun night of camping on Salt Spring Island, riders mounted their bikes once more and completed the last 100km of the ride to be welcomed across the finish line by a host of volunteers, family members, and friends to celebrate their incredible accomplishment!
Many of the riders have been touched deeply by hospice care and they ride in honour of a loved one. During the evening presentations, Stephen Mohan shared a heartfelt analogy of describing his journey through grief to the ups and downs of cycling. Stephen lost his fifteen-year-old son to cancer and has found cycling to be a positive outlet for confronting his grief. We are honoured by all the riders who shared their hospice stories over the weekend.
Special thanks to our incredible sponsors: Think Communications, Country Grocer, Berwick Retirement Communities, 91.3The Zone, 100.3 TheQ, First Memorial Funeral Services, Oak Bay Bicycles, Acacia Health, Hornby Island Energy Bards, Hoyne Brewing, Island Farmhouse Poultry, Alert First-Aid, North48 Bicycles and the many local business who donated prizes for our hard working riders!
The funds raised will help eight local hospice societies provide compassionate end-of-life care for patients and their families.
