SUMMARY:Online Bereavement Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, September 15 – October 27\n\n\n\nA 7-week support group focused on bereavement following the death of a loved one\, facilitated by a Victoria Hospice Bereavement Counsellor. This group includes both sharing and support\, as well as grief education. \n\n\n\nEach session will consist of: \n\n\n\n\nA check-in in which each participant will have a chance to speak to where they are at in their grief that day;\nA 10-15 minute presentation on a topic intended to support you in your grief;\nAnd a discussion of the topic and other predominant themes of the day.\n\n\n\n\nWhere: Online using Zoom platform (must have access to a device that can have a Zoom account and has a microphone and camera).When: The sessions will be held Thursdays starting at 4:30 pm.Who: Limited number of registered participants who are bereaved following the loss of a loved one. \n\n\n\nFee: Registration fee is $70. Please speak to us if the fee is a barrier to your participation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds; bursaries are available. \n\n\n \nRegister: Contact us at Hospice.Bereavement@islandhealth.ca or call 250-519-3040. \n\n\n \n** A pre-group interview with a counsellor is required to discuss your needs\, answer any questions you may have\, and determine whether the group is a good fit for you at this time.**Information for setting up Zoom and participating in this type of group format will be sent via email prior to the start date of the group. ​**Your email will also be used to contact you throughout the 7 weeks about practical information for the group (Zoom invitation\, resources from the sessions\, evaluations\, etc).

SUMMARY:Walking Through Grief Support Group
DESCRIPTION:Saturday mornings\, Oct. 15 – Dec. 3 (no session Nov. 12) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis 7-week registered walking group open to all adults in the Greater Victoria Community who are bereaved after the death of someone important in their life. While walking at a relaxed pace with the facilitation of a Victoria Hospice Bereavement Counsellor and Bereavement Volunteer\, participants may explore their grief through the movement of walking\, through being outdoors in nature\, and through being with other grievers in this supported group experience. \n\n\n\nWhen: October 15 to December 3 on Saturday mornings starting at 10:30am. Walks will be approximately 1.5 hours. The first session may be a little longer than the subsequent sessions. \n\n\n\nWhere: Walks will begin at our Community Support Centre\, 102-4450 Chatterton Way \n\n\n\nWho: Limited number of registered adult participants who are bereaved following the loss of someone important in their life. A pre-group intake conversation with a counsellor is required to discuss your needs\, answer any questions you may have\, and determine whether the group is a good fit for you at this time. \n\n\n\nSessions: Each session will open and close with participants gathering in a circle. In between\, participants will head out on an approximately hour-long walk. \n\n\n\nRegister: Please contact us at Hospice.Bereavement@islandhealth.ca or call 250-519-3040 to register or add your name to the waitlist for this support group. \n\n\n\nCost: There is a group fee of $70\, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds; bursaries to cover this cost\, in part or in full\, are available.

DESCRIPTION:Victoria Hospice Bereavement Services is offering a seven-week support group for adults who are grieving a loved one who has died by suicide. Facilitated by a bereavement counsellor\, the group incorporates grief education\, sharing and support\, therapeutic activities\, and creative exploration. \n\n\n\nThe group aims to enhance one’s sense of community and belonging\, explore unique features of grief in response to suicide death\, and support the healing and adaption process of grief. \n\n\n\nWhen: Oct. 19 to Nov. 30\, 2022\, Wednesdays 4:30 to 6:30pm \n\n\n\nWhere: The series will be held at the Community Support Centre on Chatterton Way or online on the Zoom video platform. \n\n\n\nGroup size: Limited number of participants to enhance comfort.
