DESCRIPTION:When grief and loss leave you empty handed\, picking up a pen can help. The next journal group starts January 13\, 2023. \n\n\n\nDid you know the writing process\, specifically journaling\, can be a very effective tool for working through grief? This Winter Journal Group\, facilitated by a Victoria Hospice Bereavement Counsellor\, is a seven-week support group focused on bereavement following the death of someone important to you. \n\n\n\nIf you are grieving and would like to learn more about journal writing\, you may be interested in this group. We provide a safe space for participants to access and explore their experience with grief.  No writing experience is required to participate – just an interest in writing. \n\n\n\nDates:  Fridays from 10 am – 12 pm\, January 13 – February 24 inclusive \n\n\n\nFee: $70 for seven sessions• Limited number of participants• Please register no later than January 5 at noon to reserve your spot• A commitment to attend all the sessions will enhance the value gained from the group• This group runs online on Zoom platform (you must have access to a device that can have a Zoom account and has a microphone and camera). \n\n\n\nContact Hospice.Bereavement@islandhealth.ca or 250-519-3040 to register. \n\n\n\nNo one will be turned away for lack of funds: bursaries are available. DESCRIPTION:Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow is a conversation game around living\, dying\, and what matters most. \nConversations about death can be difficult to approach but we know that these discussions are important and necessary for clarifying values\, wishes and goals about care and end of life care. There are a number of tools\, such as advance care planning\, which help achieve these goals\, but often this planning is left until a person is ageing or is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. To encourage de-stigmatizing these difficult conversations\, Victoria Hospice has developed a series of conversation starters that you can use in your home with your family\, friends and loved ones. \nAnyone is welcome to register for this facilitated game featuring Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow cards. \nLearning Objectives: To explore\, share and listen through conversation what matters most to you. \nFacilitators: Marta Lefsrud from Victoria Hospice Education and Research and Liz McCarter from Island Health.

SUMMARY:Yoga for Grief
DESCRIPTION:Yoga for Grief is a two-hour yoga workshop\, followed by a 30-minute tea and refreshment break\, facilitated by Victoria Hospice volunteer Colleen Tiltman\, a certified yoga teacher. \nThe yoga workshop is designed for bereaved people to help support their grief journey. Participants will be introduced to a variety of yoga practices\, including gentle movement and postures\, breathing techniques\, and a restorative guided relaxation. The workshop is experiential\, focussing on the movements of yoga and breath work to aid in relaxation during grief. Following the yoga portion of this workshop there will be a short refreshment break\, to provide participants with an opportunity to get to know each other and the facilitator. \nNo previous yoga experience is required to participate. Modifications and adaptations will be provided as needed. \nPlease bring: \n\na yoga mat\n2 blankets\na small cushion to support your head\nan eye pillow/eye covering\n\nWhen: Wednesday\, January 25\, Yoga practice 9:30 – 11:30 am\, followed by refreshments 11:30-12:00 \nWhere: In-person\, with COVID-19 protocols in place\, at the Victoria Hospice Community Support Centre located at 102-4450 Chatterton Way. \nCost: The workshop fee of $20.
