SUMMARY:Living with Grief-Adjusting to Life after Loss
DESCRIPTION:A one-time\, interactive workshop covering the basics of grief and mourning\, and ways to cope for those who are bereaved following the death of a loved one. This is an interactive workshop that encourages sharing from participants while learning about different ideas around grief and mourning. Although we will not be screening participants\, we recommend that you give yourself at least one month after your loss before attending this workshop due to the overwhelming nature of grief. \nHave you recently lost someone important to you? Are you surprised by your grief and wondering what is normal and how best to cope? This workshop\, developed by the grief counsellors at Victoria Hospice\, will help you understand your grief. \nJoin us as we: \n\nShare and support one another in your grieving experiences\nBetter understand grieving and mourning\nExplore the many ways that grief can impact our lives\nExplain how grieving naturally works to help us live with our losses\nIdentify ways to support healthy adjustment to loss\nExplore your continued connection to the person who has died\nHave opportunities for you to reflect and share on the material\nAnswer your questions\n\nPlease register by confirming a ticket on Eventbrite. The workshop is free of charge and will be held at our Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way. Please only register if you feel will be able to attend the workshop. As there are a limited amount of spaces available\, confirming a ticket means you are claiming one of these spaces. Please call us at 250-519-3040 with any questions about the workshop. \nPlease do not attend if you have signs of illness/infection. \nDo I need to bring anything?\nPlease bring whatever you need to be comfortable\, such as pen and paper\, lap blanket\, etc. We will have some office supplies on hand\, as well as tissues\, water\, tea\, and handouts related to the workshop. \nWhat if I cannot attend?\nPlease let us know as soon as possible so that we can try to fill your spot. As there are often more people interested than we have room for\, we ask you to let us know if you are cancelling your attendance. Please call us at 250-519-3040 if you cannot attend. \nDo I have to share or speak at the workshop?\nAlthough this is an interactive workshop\, you will never be expected to speak or share unless you choose to. Attendees will be invited to introduce themselves and who they are grieving (sharing their name)\, ask questions\, and/or choose to give comments on the workshop material. \nWhat if I want to attend for reasons other than currently grieving someone?\nWe hope that this workshop is dedicated to people who are grieving someone that is important to them who has died. If you have other reasons for your interest in grief education\, please contact us at 250-519-3040 to see if there are other ways we can meet your needs.
