SUMMARY:Suicide Loss Support Group (8 weeks)
DESCRIPTION:Victoria Hospice Bereavement Services is offering an eight-week support group for adults who are grieving following the loss of someone important in their life who has died by suicide. Facilitated by two bereavement counsellors\, the group incorporates grief education\, sharing and support\, therapeutic activities\, and mindfulness practice. \nThe group aims to enhance one’s sense of community and belonging\, explore unique features of grief in response to suicide death\, and support the healing process of grief. \nDate and time:\nTuesdays from October 8 to November 26\, 2024 from 4:30 to 6:30 pm \nWhere:\nAt the group room space in the Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way \nWho:\nA limited number of pre-registered participants to enhance comfort. A commitment to attend all sessions enhances the value of the group experience. \nHow:\nA pre-group interview with a counsellor is required to discuss your needs\, answer any questions you may have\, and determine whether the group is a good fit for you at this time. DESCRIPTION:Do you want to meet other grieving people? Are you ready to share and listen to people’s experiences with grief? Join Victoria Hospice for a Grief Café. \nA grief café is a social gathering of people in bereavement who wish to share their own experience and listen to others. \nWhen you arrive at the Victoria Hospice Community Support Centre\, you will be greeted by one of the volunteer facilitators. You’ll be invited to choose a drink or a snack\, and find a seat at one of the tables. The volunteers will go over the format for the session and provide some short prompts to help guide the conversation at the tables. SUMMARY:Living with Grief: Adjusting to Life After Loss (in person)
DESCRIPTION:A one-time\, interactive workshop covering the basics of grief and mourning\, and ways to cope for those who are bereaved following the death of a loved one. This is an interactive workshop that encourages sharing from participants while learning about different ideas around grief and mourning. Although we will not be screening participants\, we recommend that you give yourself at least one month after your loss before attending this workshop due to the potentially overwhelming nature of grief. \nHave you recently lost someone important to you? Are you surprised by your grief and wondering what is normal and how best to cope? This workshop\, developed by the grief counsellors at Victoria Hospice\, will help you understand your grief\, as well as offering a chance to connect with other grievers in our community. Join us as we: \n\nShare and support one another in your grieving experiences\nBetter understand grieving and mourning\nExplore the many ways that grief can impact our lives\nExplain how grieving naturally works to help us live with our losses\nIdentify ways to support healthy adjustment to loss\nExplore your continued connection to the person who has died\nHave opportunities for you to reflect and share on the material\nAnswer your questions\n\nThis workshop will take place at our Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way. DESCRIPTION:Did you know that the writing process\, specifically journaling\, can be a very effective tool for working through grief? \nIf you are someone who is grieving\, and you have an interest in learning more about journal writing\, you may be interested in our Fall Journal Group. We provide a safe space for participants to access and explore their experience with grief. The group includes writing as well as time to speak about your grief with other members of the group. No writing experience is required to participate – just an interest in writing. \nSteve Silvers\, M. Couns.\, Registered Clinical Counsellor\, will facilitate the group. He is a counsellor at Victoria Hospice who has led several groups in our Bereavement Services. \nPractical information: \n\nThe group will take place on Fridays from 2:00-4:00 for 7 weeks beginning on Oct 25th and ending on Dec 6th \nLimited number of participants. Coffee/tea/water and a snack will be provided. Following the film\, Victoria Hospice’s research\, quality\, and safety manager Michelle Bahena-Olivares\, as well as bereavement counsellors Heidi Wigmore and Marney Thompson\, will facilitate a discussion with the audience about grief\, mourning\, and cultural traditions. \nNOTE: This focus of this evening will be socializing\, light discussion\, and learning.
