DESCRIPTION:A grief cafe is a social gathering of people experiencing bereavement who wish to talk about their own experience and listen to the experiences of others. \nWhen you arrive at the Victoria Hospice Community Support Centre\, you will be greeted by one of the volunteer facilitators. You’ll be invited to choose a drink or a snack and find a seat at one of the tables. The volunteers will introduce the format of the session and provide some short prompts to help guide conversation at the tables. You’ll have an opportunity to share your own story\, if you wish\, and to listen to the experience of others. \nPlease be aware that these sessions are social in nature and not a substitute for medical care or counselling. \nThere is no charge to attend\, however seats are limited and sessions fill up quickly\, so please do not request a ticket unless you plan to attend. If you have a ticket but can’t attend\, please call and let us know (250-519-3040) so that we can offer your seat to someone else. \nAlso\, this is not a drop-in event so\, please arrive prior to the start so that you have time to settle in. \nSeats may be reserved through the EventBrite link below.

SUMMARY:How to Support your Grieving Child (4 weeks in-person)
DESCRIPTION:This spring Victoria Hospice Bereavement Services is offering a four-week group for adults supporting children and youth who are grieving the loss of a parent or caregiver\, hosted by child and youth counsellor\, Jessie Lane. \nThe group is open to any adult who is the primary caregiver for a grieving child or youth\, including parents\, extended family\, foster parents\, or other guardians. \nTopics covered will include an overview of child and youth bereavement\, grief at various developmental stages\, how to talk about grief as a family\, and activities and resources for the grieving family. There will also be dedicated time for connecting with other parents and caregivers each week. \nThis group will run from 4-6pm on Thursdays April 3rd-Apr 24th at the Victoria Hospice Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way. DESCRIPTION:  \nMay 10\, 2025 \nThe World Cup Soccer Camp’s annual Anneswer to Cancer Soccer Tournament is back\, bringing together friends\, families\, and soccer fans to support Victoria Hospice. Now in its 13th year\, this event has raised over $570\,000 to provide compassionate end-of-life care for those in need! \nThis exciting event will feature a 12-team round-robin soccer tournament\, along with plenty of fun activities for all ages\, including juggling contests\, a bouncy castle\, bubble soccer\, a photo booth\, and more! \nThe action kicks off at 11:00 AM at Tyndall Turf Soccer Field\, with registration for the tournament starting at 12:00 PM. SUMMARY:Living with Grief: Adjusting to Life After Loss (in person)
DESCRIPTION:A one-time\, interactive workshop covering the basics of grief and mourning\, and ways to cope for those who are bereaved following the death of a loved one. This is an interactive workshop that encourages sharing from participants while learning about different ideas around grief and mourning. Although we will not be screening participants\, we recommend that you give yourself at least one month after your loss before attending this workshop due to the potentially overwhelming nature of grief. \nHave you recently lost someone important to you? Are you surprised by your grief and wondering what is normal and how best to cope? This workshop\, developed by the grief counsellors at Victoria Hospice\, will help you understand your grief\, as well as offering a chance to connect with other grievers in our community. Join us as we: \n\nShare and support one another in your grieving experiences\nBetter understand grieving and mourning\nExplore the many ways that grief can impact our lives\nExplain how grieving naturally works to help us live with our losses\nIdentify ways to support healthy adjustment to loss\nExplore your continued connection to the person who has died\nHave opportunities for you to reflect and share on the material\nAnswer your questions\n\nThis workshop will take place at our Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way. Masks are optional. Please do not attend if you have signs of illness/infection. We appreciate your attention to this matter. \nThe workshop is free of charge.
