Join us to help raise critical funds and awareness for Victoria Hospice while enjoying an impactful morning walk with your community. \nThe scenic 3.5 km loop starts and ends at Willows Park\, taking you along beautiful Beach Drive to the Oak Bay Marina and back. \nThere are so many ways to participate: Encourage your workplace to join the Workplace Challenge\, bring along a four-legged friend for their chance to win the “Best Dressed Dog” award\, or Hike on Your Site – wherever suits you best. And if you’d like to volunteer\, your help is appreciated! \nAnd don’t forget to pick up your ticket for the 50/50 draw! \nCheck-in and entertainment at Willows Park begins at 9 a.m.\, opening ceremonies are at 9:45 a.m.\, and the walk begins at 10 a.m. \nRegistration is open! SUMMARY:Walking Through Grief Support Group (8 weeks)
DESCRIPTION:The ‘Walking Through Grief’ Support Group is an 8-week walking support group\, open to all adults in the Greater Victoria Community who are bereaved after the death of someone important in their life. \nWhile walking at a relaxed pace in the area near the Chatterton Way Community Support Centre\, with the facilitation of a Victoria Hospice Bereavement Counsellor and Bereavement Volunteer\, this support group is a way to explore your grief through the movement of walking\, being outdoors in nature\, and by sharing with and supporting other grievers. \nMORE DETAILS \nWhen:  Saturdays\, 1030am to approximately 12pm (the first session will be longer) May 10th to June 28th\, 2025         \nWhere: Walks will begin at the Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way and will follow the Rithet’s Bog loop. \nWho: Limited number of registered participants (adults) who are bereaved following the loss of someone important in their life. Participants will be required to sign a self-declaration form stating they are capable of walking for an hour and have checked in with their doctor if needed. If you are unsure if you can walk this location for this long\, please walk the full Rithet’s Bog loop to see if this is possible for you at this time before signing up for this support group.  \nSessions: Each session will open and close with participants gathering in a circle with a brief discussion round. In between\, participants will head out on an approximately hour-long walk. Except for inclement weather\, sessions will run rain or shine. \nHow: A pre-group intake conversation with a counsellor may be required to discuss your needs\, answer any questions you may have\, and determine whether the group is a good fit for you at this time. \nFee: There is no charge to attend this group. Now in its 13th year\, the event has raised more than $650\,000 for compassionate end-of-life care! \nFamily\, friends\, and soccer players will gather for an action-packed day that includes a 12-team round robin soccer tournament and various other events including penalty shots\, a radar machine\, juggling contests\, cut-throat keeper — and back by popular demand…the obstacle course challenge! \nVictoria Hospice is incredibly grateful to all the friends\, family\, sponsors\, and community that repeatedly come together to help support compassionate end-of-life care in our community. Thank you to everyone who organizes and participates in this great community initiative. You’ll be invited to choose a drink or a snack and find a seat at one of the tables. The volunteers will introduce the format of the session and provide some short prompts to help guide conversation at the tables. You’ll have an opportunity to share your own story\, if you wish\, and to listen to the experience of others. \nPlease be aware that these sessions are social in nature and not a substitute for medical care or counselling. \nThere is no charge to attend\, however seats are limited and sessions fill up quickly\, so please do not request a ticket unless you plan to attend. DESCRIPTION:Cycle of Life Tour riders spin for donations to support hospice care on Vancouver Island \nA team of cyclists are going the distance to support compassionate end-of-life care at Victoria Hospice. In August\, they’ll ride more than 200 km over two days around southern Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island in the annual Cycle of Life Tour fundraising ride. \nBut on Saturday\, May 24 and Saturday\, May 31\, the Breaking Wind for Victoria Hospice team will be at Canadian Tire at the Hillside Centre to raise donations for their team. \nDrop by Canadian Tire on Hillside on May 24 or 31 between 9 am and 3 pm to show the cyclists your support! You can also contribute to the team’s efforts on their fundraising page.
