SUMMARY:Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow Conversation Game
DESCRIPTION:  \nPlease join us for the Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow conversation game about living\, dying\, and what matters most. \nConversations about death can be difficult to approach but we know that these discussions are important and necessary for clarifying values\, wishes\, and goals about care and end of life care. There are a number of tools such as advance care planning which helps to achieve these goals\, but often this planning is left until a person is ageing or is diagnosed with a life limiting illness. To encourage de-stigmatizing these difficult conversations Victoria Hospice has developed a series of conversation starters that you can use in your home with family\, friends\, and loved ones. \nVictoria Hospice Society would like to welcome community members to our facilitated game featuring its very own Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow cards. \nThis card deck is an easy\, safe\, and sensitive way to reflect on what matters most in your life. We welcome you to join Victoria Hospice Education and Research Facilitators to engage in important discussions in a supportive environment. \nThe card deck can be used two ways\, but we will be using these cards in its most simple form – to begin conversations. The conversation has four simple rules: listen\, reflect\, write\, and share (or not!). \nWhen you register\, you will be put in a draw to win your very own card set so you can bring these discussions to your loved ones\, friends\, and family. \nThe event runs Monday April 24from 10:30 am to 12 pm at the Victoria Hospice Community Support Centre. Register for this event on Eventbrite.  \nContact Marta Lefsrud\, Community Education and Projects Lead for more information. \nWe look forward to seeing you there!

SUMMARY:Advance Care Planning 2-part Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:  \nWe plan for birthdays\, weddings\, and even dinner – so why don’t we plan our health care? \nWhat health care decisions are made when you are no longer capable of making them yourself? Who acts as your Representative or Substitute Decision Maker? What are your values\, wishes and beliefs? \nLearn about these terms\, what they mean\, and how to answer them in the workshop. \nAdvance Care Planning is often thought of as planning for the end of life\, but it is really about planning for life\, up to and including death. \nIt is a process of thinking about what is important to you and what your beliefs\, values and wishes are for your care. \nAdvance care planning is also about sharing those wishes\, especially with your substitute decision-maker (the person who will speak for you if you can’t speak for yourself) so that your family and friends know how you would like to be cared for in the future. \nBut lots of resources have too much medical\, and legal jargon. It’s hard to know where to start. \nThis two-part workshop helps you tackle planning with confidence. You will finish having the tools and skills to start the conversation with your friends\, loved ones\, and health care providers. \n\nPart 1: April 20 at 10:30am\nPart 2: April 27 at 10:30am\n\nEach session is approximately 1.5 hours long\, and will help participants get started working on their own plans\, and having conversations with their loved ones. Register now! \n\n\n\n Things to note: \n\nThis workshop is delivered online using the Zoom platform and consists of two parts and attendance is required for both.\nUpon registration you will be asked a number of questions on advance care planning\, these are to assess where each persons level of knowledge is prior to the workshop\nPlease download Zoom beforehand and make sure you have a webcam and mic to join.\nOnce you register\, you will be sent a welcome package with instructions on forms and documents to print prior to the workshop.\nIf you are assisting a loved one\, family member\, or partner during the workshop\, only the participant will need to register.\nEach participant should register separately as well as use separate devices during the workshop.\n\nRegister for the Advance Care Planning workshop on Eventbrite.  \nDo you have questions about Victoria Hospice Public Education events? Please contact Marta Lesfrud\, Community Education and Projects Lead.

SUMMARY:Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow Conversation Game
DESCRIPTION:Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow is a conversation game around living\, dying\, and what matters most. \nConversations about death can be difficult to approach but we know that these discussions are important and necessary for clarifying values\, wishes and goals about care and end of life care. There are a number of tools\, such as advance care planning\, which help achieve these goals\, but often this planning is left until a person is ageing or is diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. To encourage de-stigmatizing these difficult conversations\, Victoria Hospice has developed a series of conversation starters that you can use in your home with your family\, friends and loved ones. \nAnyone is welcome to register for this facilitated game featuring Here Today\, Gone Tomorrow cards. \nLearning Objectives: To explore\, share and listen through conversation what matters most to you. \nFacilitators: Marta Lefsrud from Victoria Hospice Education and Research and Liz McCarter from Island Health.
