SUMMARY:Living with Grief: Adjusting to Life After Loss (in person)
DESCRIPTION:A one-time\, interactive workshop covering the basics of grief and mourning\, and ways to cope for those who are bereaved following the death of a loved one. This is an interactive workshop that encourages sharing from participants while learning about different ideas around grief and mourning. Although we will not be screening participants\, we recommend that you give yourself at least one month after your loss before attending this workshop due to the potentially overwhelming nature of grief. \nHave you recently lost someone important to you? Are you surprised by your grief and wondering what is normal and how best to cope? This workshop\, developed by the grief counsellors at Victoria Hospice\, will help you understand your grief\, as well as offering a chance to connect with other grievers in our community. Join us as we: \n\nShare and support one another in your grieving experiences\nBetter understand grieving and mourning\nExplore the many ways that grief can impact our lives\nExplain how grieving naturally works to help us live with our losses\nIdentify ways to support healthy adjustment to loss\nExplore your continued connection to the person who has died\nHave opportunities for you to reflect and share on the material\nAnswer your questions\n\nThis workshop will take place at our Community Support Centre at 102-4450 Chatterton Way. Masks are optional. Please do not attend if you have signs of illness/infection. We appreciate your attention to this matter. \nThe workshop is free of charge. Please only register if you feel will be able to attend the workshop. As there are a limited number of spaces available\, confirming a ticket means you are claiming one of these spaces. Please register at the EventBrite link below. \nPlease email Victoria Hospice Bereavement Services or call 250-519-3040 if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:Mountain Golf Tournament
DESCRIPTION:A close-knit group of family and friends will hit the links again this year August 9-11 to celebrate the 31st annual Mountain Golf Tournament. The tour has grown from twelve to 70 participants and now takes place on the Olympic View\, Cordova Bay and Bear Mountain courses. \nPaul Sekhon was a founding member\, beloved family member and friend who died in 2011. The care Paul received on the Inpatient Unit and at home with support from the Palliative Response Team served as inspiration to Paul’s friends and family to do what they could to ensure that compassionate care is available to others. \n“In the final weeks of Dad’s life\, using the hospice services at home – what an opportunity that was to have four weeks in our home having everyone come in and visit – many people don’t get to have that\,” says Paul’s son\, Javas. “That month was really special\, and that was something hospice was able to help provide.” \nThe tournament also honours the memory of Raman Jhuti\, a Mountain Golf Tournament team member and cherished friend\, who died in 2020. \nThe friends of Paul and Raman aim to raise $35\,000 this year. To date their efforts have resulted in over $170\,000 being raised for Hospice. \nYou can support their fundraising goal by donating here\, or by contacting us for more info.

SUMMARY:Oak Bay Collector Car Festival
DESCRIPTION:Ken Agate was a legend in Oak Bay. The proprietor of the Blethering Place since 1981\, he was known for his generosity\, sense of community\, and love of classic collector cars. He founded the Oak Bay Collector Car Festival 24 years ago to share his passion with the community. \nWhen Ken was admitted to Victoria Hospice for end-of-life care last fall\, his friends\, Ron Dempsey and Tony Joe\, brought photos of the event to his bedside. \n“Ken wasn’t able to speak\, but he was certainly expressive and emotional. It was an incredible moment really to see\, as we were telling him how the event was bigger and better than ever\, and how we had an amazing team and a new generation of volunteers\,” Ron says. \nEnjoy viewing classic collector cars – including Ken’s beloved 1938 Dodge Deluxe Touring Sedan – on Oak Bay Avenue Saturday\, July 21 from 10 am to 3 pm. To honour the care Ken received\, organizers will donate partial proceeds to Victoria Hospice. Read more about Ken Agate and the Oak Bay Collector Car Festival. \nSupport the Oak Bay Collector Car Festival’s fundraising efforts for Victoria Hospice by donating here
