“Speaking Grief” film screening & discussion
September 6, 2023 at 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
SOLD OUT!
Victoria Hospice Movie Night for Grievers
Join Victoria Hospice Bereavement Services for a screening of the award-winning documentary Speaking Grief to explore the transformative experience of losing a family member in a death- and grief-avoidant society.
This film seeks to normalize grief through candid interviews and help people become more comfortable with the many faces, forms, and personal experiences of grief. By sharing diverse representations of bereavement experiences, this documentary illustrates that grief is a universal, yet individual experience and moves away from the idea that grief is a problem that needs to be “fixed.” It offers validation for the diverse experiences of grievers and guides those wishing to support them.
We will view the documentary in the first hour, with coffee, tea, water and popcorn provided. Following the film, Victoria Hospice bereavement counsellors Heidi Wigmore and Marney Thompson will facilitate a discussion with the audience about grief and how it is presented in the film.
