In memoriam: John “J.S.” Walton
Victoria Hospice joins with family and friends of John “J.S.” Walton to mourn his passing at 91 on May 28, 2022.
J.S was the founding president of the Victoria Hospice Foundation and is remembered for his leadership during this significant time in the organization’s history.
An engineer by training, J.S. led large mining, forest products, and investment banking corporations from Quebec and Ontario to Brazil to British Columbia.
His dedicated service to the community included board leadership roles with the Commonwealth Games Society, the Performing Arts Harbour Centre Project, and the Royal BC Museum. He was an Honorary Governor of the Victoria Foundation, a recipient of both the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal and the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, and he received an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Victoria.
“J.S. Walton’s exemplary example of community leadership held the bar high for those who follow in his footsteps,” says VHS Board Chair Paul Pallan. “On behalf of the Victoria Hospice Society Board of Directors, I extend my deep condolences to his family. He will be long remembered.”
