As we approach National Volunteer week, our Volunteer Program is growing by leaps and bounds – and bouquets! What better time to celebrate all our volunteers who serve tirelessly on the Inpatient Unit, at the Community Support Centre, in our admin offices and at fundraising events.
“Our volunteers are the heart and soul of Hospice,” said Julia Dawson, Victoria Hospice coordinator of volunteer services. “I’m so excited to share that we are currently onboarding 32 newcomers who bring an amazing breadth of experience and strength to the team.” Over the past year, our volunteers have truly stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park.
What we are celebrating:

- The 32 new volunteers in training for the Inpatient Unit (IPU) and Palliative Care Unit (PCU) in the RJH Patient Care Centre will complete training on May 4 and launch into mentor shifts in May/June.
- The Royal Jubilee Hospital 8 South Palliative Unit partnership program has passed the 1 year mark
- Flower volunteers Jean and Toula are organizing amazing flowers for the unit
- PATS animal therapy volunteers are now heading over to 8 South
- Volunteer hours and impact have increased dramatically over the last year, from a total of 7132 hours in 2024/2025 to 10769 hours in 2025/2026!
