Victoria Hospice Society appoints three senior leaders

A message from Trudi Brown, Victoria Hospice Society Board Chair

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Victoria Hospice Society, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Teri Henderson as Interim Chief Executive Officer.

After joining Victoria Hospice as Chief Operating Officer in March 2023, Teri Henderson has been appointed Interim Chief Executive Officer effective immediately. She follows Kevin Harter in the role, who led Victoria Hospice since 2018 and will be joining Luther Court Society as CEO.

A long-time advocate for accessible and equitable community-based palliative care, Teri’s previous roles includes Director of Clinical Services at Hospice Toronto and Associate Director of Community Development for Gilda’s Club of Greater Toronto, a charity that supports people living with cancer. She has been a program lead and instructor in Mindfulness Informed End-of-life Care at the University of Toronto’s School of Continuing Studies and holds a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto.

The Board has also please to announce the appointment of a new Interim Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Finance and Corporate Services.

Shaun Lorhan has been promoted to the role of Interim Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately. Shaun joined Victoria Hospice as Director of Education and Research in September 2022. Shaun has 25 years of healthcare leadership experience with a strong track record of building and managing successful teams in quality improvement, patient-centred research, and program development. She holds a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Western Ontario and a Master of Arts in Leadership & Training from Royal Roads University.

After joining Victoria Hospice as a Financial Analyst in 2020, Alexandra Young has been promoted to the position of Director of Finance and Corporate Services, effective immediately. Alexandra is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with more than 10 years’ experience in the private and not-for-profit sectors. Her diverse accounting background gives her the ability to refine and implement processes to serve all aspects of the organization. She holds a BA in Business Administration from the University of Applied Sciences in Munich and a CPA designation from the Chartered Professional Accountants of BC.

The wealth of experience and dedication to compassionate end-of-life care demonstrated by Teri, Shaun, and Alexandra ensures steady support for the people we serve, the organization, and our hardworking care teams. I am pleased to see these strong leaders in place as VHS grows and evolves to provide more services to our growing community.
